i picked a call from an unknown number two days ago- it was a pre-recorded voice speaking warning me about a Fedex parcel being stuck at customs. I listened to the message and cut the call as I was already suspicious. Usually fedex or DHL send a message over email and so i waited for the email (and i knew i wasnt expecting any such shipment) and no such email has show up.
this is however a major scam and grabbing media headlines. CNBC has a wonderful video covering how scammers scare people into transfering money and how you can protect yourself.

The sad part is this is a transnational crime where people have been tricked into cyber slavery in huge scam factories in myanmar and cambodia.
We all need to protect ourselves and our communities with knowledge and provide the time and space for governments to act against such transnational crime
